Sign Language Education and Certification Maintenance Programs

Dr. Daniel D. Burch is an Approved Sponsor (#0015) for the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID), Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) and Associate Continuing Education Tracking Program (ACET). Continuing Education Units can be earned for SLSI Sponsored Activities, Academic Coursework, Independent Study, and/or Participant Initiated Non-RID Activities (PINRAs).

SLSI Initiated Activity:  Activities include workshops and seminars offered by SLSI. Check the calendar to see what is available.

Academic Coursework: Participants can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for courses taken. RID requires a minimum of a “C” in any course.  Dr. Burch requires a “B”.  Participants are encouraged to design coursework experience toward a degree.

Independent Study: Participants engage in self-determined Independent Study Activities. This may range from developing and presenting a workshop to independent research on a topic of interest to the individual and the field. Participants are strongly encouraged to produce a written document that can be submitted for publication in a professional newsletter or journal.

Participant Initiated Non-RID Activity (Co-Sponsored Training): The field of interpreting interfaces with a vast array of disciplines. Workshops or training available may not be directly tied to interpreting, but offer the interpreter valuable knowledge s/he can bring to the job. Interpreters are urged to expand their horizons by taking training through workshops or seminars from related fields.
